Chevrolet Malibu Overview

Chevy Malibu Grand Rapids

The Chevrolet Malibu is a widely popular mid-sized sedan produced by General Motors. This American classic was first manufactured in the years 1964 to 1983 and again from 1997 to present. Originally the Malibu had the same trim level as the Chevrolet Chevelle and later became its own model in 1978.

In the year 2008, the Chevy Malibu was extensively redesigned and re-engineered for the seventh generation lineup. The 2010, 2011, and 2012 models are all a part of the seventh generation lineup and were built on a revised version of the long-wheelbase Epsilon platform. The longer wheelbase allowed an increase in front legroom but decreased the legroom in the rear of the vehicle. Like the previous Malibu, the interior remains mid-sized.

Something new to the seventh generation models are higher quality materials and an innovative twin-cowl dash design. In 2010, many of the standard safety features changed and became much more advanced. Some of the standard features include new elements such as OnStar, a tire-pressure monitoring system, and the addition of six airbags thought the sedan. Also standard on all Malibu models is GM's StabiliTrak. Soon after these changes, in 2011, the four-speed automatic transmission was dropped from the Malibu powertrain lineup. The seventh generation Chevrolet Malibu is available in a large variety of trim levels which all differ by year. The different trim levels included in this generation are LS, 1LS, 1FL, LT, 1LT, 2FL, LTZ and 1LZ. The eighth generation was born in 2013 when the Chevy Malibu was once again was redesigned.

This distinctively different car blends a leisurely ride with responsive handling, a spacious interior, effective safety performance and trusted quality.
