New Chevy Call Me Out App Motivates Drivers to Be Extra Safe

Chevrolet is getting creative with its latest attempts to reduce distracted driving, particularly the new Call Me Out app. This system is designed to remind both beginners and experienced drivers to keep their eyes on the road when they’re behind the wheel. The app uses the voices of your loved ones to provide audible alerts to motivate drivers to put their phone downs and pay attention as they drive.

Believe it or not, about 90 percent of drivers handle a phone behind the wheel. The new Call Me Out app can provide warm reminders from your family to help you put your phone down, funny alerts from friends, and more. In addition to smartphone features, this system creatively builds on rhetorical strategies and concepts in education—like gamification—to motivate drivers to become safer behind the wheel.

For the app to work, according to Chevrolet, you first download the app for free. Then it uses the accelerometer and GPS system that come in most phones to detect when you’re driving in a car and pick up your phone. When this happens, it plays recorded and personalized messages from friends and family to remind you to keep your eyes on the road. It also has special competitive features, like scoreboards and rankings so you can compete with friends and family to see who’s the safest driver.

Of course, the app isn’t the only system that Chevrolet offers to help keep eyes on the road. For more information, come visit us at Berger Chevrolet.
