Automated Vehicle Inspection System
Inspecting vehicles has never been easier thanks to UVeye’s automated vehicle inspection system. UVeye stands for “under vehicle eye”. Here at Berger, we aim to give our customers a thorough and transparent experience when they come through our Certified Service Lanes.
All you have to do is drive through the device located in service lane 2 for a transparent report about your vehicle before it comes in for service. UVeye uses AI and computer vision to scan a vehicle's underbody, tires, and exterior for damage.
The system uses multiple scanners to capture thousands of images of the vehicle as it drives through, which are analyzed by AI algorithms to identify issues. The system can detect a variety of damage, including dents, scratches, rust, leaks, tire wear, and more. It can also identify mechanical issues, anomalies, modifications, or foreign objects. The whole process takes only three or four seconds and produces reports on the spot that are sent to our service advisors so that they can go through the report with each of our customers.
The Tech
Our UVeye system utilizes three different inspection systems to identify issues that are found with each vehicle.
Helios is an underbody scanner that detects issues such as brake and exhaust system issues, missing parts, fluid leaks, and frame damage, and underbody, including the inner wheel and axel. It was the catalyst for UVeye, originally designed to look for security concerns under vehicles at checkpoints, airports, refineries, etc. Over time they found that it was detecting oil leaks, and broken and missing parts through AI and high-grade military artificial intelligence.
Artemis is a system that inspects tires. It identifies tire brands in seconds. It also produces the tire’s technical specifications, air pressure, sidewall damage, tread depth, and checks for mismatched tires, foreign objects, and alignment issues.
Atlas provides a 360-degree view of a vehicle’s exterior to detect imperfections in the vehicle’s sheet metal, bumpers, grilles, door locks, and windows. This system’s scanner is able to identify dents, scratches, dings, paint defects, rust, and broken glass.
How Does it Work?
So, how does it work? Before your service appointment, your vehicle will be driven through the UVeye automated vehicle inspection system. Thousands of high-definition cameras and artificial intelligence will quickly and accurately inspect your vehicle. Within 30 seconds your service advisor and service technician will have a complete report of your vehicle. Your service advisor will then go over the results with you and show you the images the system has gathered.
From here, your service technician will take over. The tech will still inspect your vehicle before making repairs but UVeye will save them time! For example, if the report shows a leak, the technician will know exactly where to look for the leak and be able to diagnose your vehicle faster, and get it repaired so that you can get back on the road!
How it Started
Although UVeye’s drive-through automated vehicle inspection system was originally developed as a means of screening vehicles for contraband at border crossings, the company expanded its use for instant quality control inspections at auto assembly plants and is quickly rolling out to dealerships such as Berger Chevy, used-car auctions, and fleets around the US!
