AMANDA BELKA EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Our November Employee Spotlight is our hard-working Warranty Manager who loves all things automotive. Congrats and Thank You are in order to Amanda Belka!
Amanda began her drive toward the automotive industry during her freshman year of high school. While many others chose Home Economics as an elective class, Amanda preferred Auto Shop. As time went on she began taking classes at Kent Career Technical Center (who Berger proudly still partners with today) to further her automotive education. One day she needed a cylinder head for her Engine class and she decided to order one from Berger Chevrolet. When she came to pick up her cylinder head, she decided to ask for a job. Amanda worked as a Quick Lube Technician until she graduated from the Ferris State GM ASEP program (whom Berger also still proudly partners with today) and has worked at Berger Chevrolet ever since!
As our 7th most tenured employee, Amanda feels blessed to have found Berger. She describes Berger as a place where she could continue to enjoy her decision to pursue a career in the automotive industry. She went on to say that Berger is home and that she feels relaxed coming into work.
As you can imagine, Amanda’s role has changed and evolved over the last 26 years of her employment at Berger. She moved from Quick Lube Tech to working on light maintenance, trim, and mechanical checks to Service Cashier, before moving on to Warranty Administrator where she booked all service repair orders. Since then Amanda added dispatch and shop production responsibilities to her role before becoming our Warranty Manager.
The time frame that stands out the most to Amanda as being the most important and pivotal in her career was 8 years ago when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She will not forget the support and understanding that her colleagues showed her during such a crucial time. Her coworkers are part of the many reasons that she enjoys working here at Berger. She went on to say that she doesn’t drag her feet in the morning when coming to work, and sometimes even feels more relaxed at Berger than at home. She loves the management team, the people, the environment, and the cars. She even went so far as to say, “I can’t imagine my life without Berger.”
When asked if she had advice for anyone interested in working in the Service Department at Berger, Amanda said, “Come with a positive attitude and be willing to work with others in a fast-paced environment. If you find that Service isn’t your place, there are other departments that may work.”
Amanda wanted to give a shout-out to all of the leadership here at Berger. She is impressed and grateful for the teamwork displayed amongst all 7 of our departments here at Berger. She went on to compliment all of the current team directors and managers who have brought all of the departments together and said that “Berger is a better working environment because of them.” Our Service Director, Channon, nominated Amanda for this spotlight, praising her positive attitude and willingness to teach and assist others.
Amanda wanted to give a shout-out to Jordan C. who works in the Service Department with her. She went on to say, “I am beyond thankful to have Jordan working with me on the warranty team.”
Berger Chevrolet recently had an internal Employee Nomination form where employees were able to give an uplifting shout-out to a colleague. Amanda received multiple nominations from her peers, but this one in particular stood out. “I am Amanda’s assistant and I have always enjoyed working with her. She is always willing to help when I or others in the Service Department need assistance. She is extremely hardworking and loyal and I appreciate working alongside her!”
Some of Amanda’s favorite Berger events over the years were the Grand Rapids Santa Parade and Christmas parties at Amway. However, her most impactful Berger memory was from years ago when a vehicle had been serviced and was ready to go back to the customer; but it hadn’t been cleaned off yet. Our owner, Matt Berger, saw the vehicle, grabbed a broom, and cleaned it before he left for the day. It is those types of selfless, humble, customer-first acts that make Berger feel like home to Amanda.
As a true Chevy Gal, Amanda’s dream vehicle is a 4-door Midnight Blue Metallic Colorado Trail Boss with all of the bells and whistles. When she’s not at work you can find Amanda camping, sitting around a fire, crafting or knitting.
Please join us in congratulating Amanda, our November Employee Spotlight! And thank you for keeping it always better at Berger!
