HOW BERGER IS INVESTING IN OUR PLANET

For the first time in history, EARTHDAY.ORG (EDO) elected to continue last year’s important theme of “Invest in Our Planet” for Earth Day 2023. This theme focuses its efforts on calling governments, institutions, businesses, and more than 1 billion people around the world who participate in Earth Day into action. As a business operating in Grand Rapids, MI since 1925, Berger Chevrolet hears the call and understands our responsibility to answer it. Being a larger part of the West Michigan community, we make it a priority to do our part for the community and the planet. We’re proud to hold the title of “Green Dealer” by General Motors since 2017 and we’re grateful to our employees for their individual efforts to invest in our planet. Keep reading for a few of the actions we take to be an environmentally sustainable dealership.

Green Dealer

The title of “Green Dealer” is awarded each year to 250 dealerships out of 700 General Motors Dealerships nationwide. As a Green Dealer, we focus on waste management, water conservation, recycling, and energy efficiency. We encourage our employees to bring in reusable water bottles to work, as well as use our six water bottle refill stations to cut down on plastic waste. We also give each employee a reusable bottle upon hire to promote the use of our refill stations around the dealership. 

In addition to cutting down on plastic waste, we also promote recycling throughout our facilities. With our in-house recycling units, we’re able to recycle paper, cardboard, and even tires! Tires can take up a lot of space in landfills, so with the help of J and C Tires, we recycle all of our old tire scraps to create products like rubber asphalt, playground turf, and even coasters!

Investing in Our Community

We not only take efforts to be environmentally conscious at our dealership but also out in our community! We continuously support organizations that promote sustainability and the environment. A few examples are the New Growth Project which harvests 100% chemical-free produce while providing jobs to neuro-diverse individuals or Public Thread which uses upcycled materials to create its merchandise. We also make it a priority to participate in Stewardship Days at Millenium Park where we’ve helped pick up trash and regulate invasive species. Giving back to our community and our planet is a huge priority for us at Berger!
