DOUG SCHRADER EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Please put your hands together for our September Employee Spotlight, Doug “Fresh” Schrader!

Before beginning his journey at Berger, Doug worked in the automotive industry in vehicle sales, finance, and sales management. He currently holds the role of New Car Sales Manager at Berger Chevrolet and, most importantly, he is also our resident “Car Dad!”

Doug would describe a typical work day as, “chaotic, hectic, and a lot of fun!” The sales department starts the day off with a team meeting, then Doug makes his rounds to our sales consultants and helps the team work toward their common goal: to sell new Chevys. When asked what his favorite part of his job is, Doug said that he enjoys helping customers find the perfect car for them. He loves seeing people who are “genuinely happy” about their new vehicle! One thing he wants customers to know about buying a Chevy at Berger is that our staff genuinely cares about their customers and they are always striving to do their very best.

Out of the large number of Berger events we have throughout the year, Doug’s favorite is the All GM Show. For the last few years, he’s made it a tradition to attend with his son, Connor. Although the show is his favorite, Doug enjoys any Berger event that brings all of our departments together!

Some of the reasons he enjoys working at Berger are the resources that our dealership has. Our team is always looking to improve and innovate our processes. He also said that it’s “cool to be part of the best.” His advice to anyone interested in working at Berger is, “Do it. It’s the place to be!”

Berger’s 100th anniversary is coming up and Doug is honored and humbled to be a part of such a legacy. He went on to say that many businesses have come and gone over the years, but when you buy from Berger you can know that we’re not going anywhere and you can trust that we’ll always be here to help.

When asked if he wanted to give a shoutout to anyone in his department Doug said that he wanted to acknowledge the whole team! Doug is a true believer in teamwork. He knows that the work that his team does lays the groundwork for our New Car Sales Department to do their job and without the teamwork of his fellow managers and the sales consultants, what he does day in and day out wouldn’t have any point. 

He also wanted to give a shoutout to all of our other departments! It takes all of us working together to make Berger what it is. Our service department helps out our sales consultants if something needs to be fixed and our prep department makes sure vehicles are ready to be on the showroom floor for our sales consultants to sell.

Now Doug may be our New Car Sales Manager but he’s often recruited for our social media marketing needs! He’s no stranger to TikTok or Instagram reels. In fact, our Gen Z meets Gen X video featuring Doug still “lives rent-free in [his] head.” You can check it out here. It was such a hit that his church played it on the big screen for the entire congregation to see AND it was one of our highest-performing reels for that month!

“Car Dad” isn’t just a nickname for Doug, he takes his role very seriously. Growing up he would help his dad in the garage and that is something that he carries on with his kids. When he’s not at work or in the garage, you can find him at a Lions game or traveling with his family. They’re currently on a mission to visit every MLB baseball park in the country! His top favorite so far is Pittsburgh. 

A few facts you may not know about Doug are that he played soccer in high school and at Grand Valley University, everyone in his family was born on a Wednesday, his birthday is on Halloween, and he can hold a tune on the saxophone!
