PAUL VANDERMALE EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Put your hands together for our November Employee Spotlight, Paul VanderMale!
Paul has been working at Berger Chevrolet for five and a half years now. His journey to joining the automotive industry started his senior year of high school when he enrolled in the Kent Career Tech Center automotive program. After graduation, Paul went on to Grand Rapids Community College where he continued his education in automotive. During his schooling, he achieved state certifications in Brakes & Braking Systems and Front End & Steering!
After graduation, Paul joined the Berger team in our Quick Lube department in 2019, then transitioned to our Service Maintenance Specialist where he really found his groove. As our Service Maintenance Specialist, Paul’s day-to-day consists of making sure our dealership and service bays are in top-notch condition. Every morning Paul starts his day by making his rounds to the dealership trash cans and taking them out if they’re full. He then cleans the service bay floors with a floor scrubber that he jokingly says, “looks like a Zamboni.” At Berger, we often get complimented on how neat and clean our service bays are, especially when we have school tours or during our car show weekend. That’s all thanks to our Service Maintenance Specialist, Paul and his “Zamboni!”
When asked what his favorite parts of his job are, Paul said he really enjoys the people he works with, the opportunity to watch vehicles get worked on, and, of course, the cool cars that our customers bring to our dealership! Paul himself drives a Silverado and one of his favorite vehicles to see on Berger’s lot are the bright red Chevy Silverados which he likes to call “Big Reds.” In addition to enjoying seeing the cars that are brought to our dealership, Paul also really enjoys when customers bring their pets! His favorite visitor is Eli the miniature horse. Eli has visited the dealership several times and Paul always makes sure to say hello.
One of Paul’s favorite Berger events to attend are the employee luncheons. While Paul enjoys going to the luncheons, he’s also a part of the team that makes them happen! At every luncheon Paul is willing to lend a helping hand by getting ice for our drinks, moving and filling the heavy beverage coolers, and collecting the trash and recycling after the lunches are done.
Another event Paul really enjoys is Berger’s All GM Show in the summers! He likes to see all the classic cars fill up our parking lot. One of his favorite vehicles to see are the Chevy El Caminos.
When asked if there was anyone at Berger he’d like to give a special shoutout to, Paul said Dawson Johnson, one of our service technicians, because he appreciates how patient Dawson is. He also went on to list almost all of the service and prep technicians, which is only a testament to Paul’s friendly personality and warm character. If you ever pass by Paul at the dealership, he always goes out of his way to say a cheery hello!
After work, Paul enjoys building model tanks from the World War II era. His interest in them began because his grandfather actually fought in World War II. When not at home, he and his family enjoy going up north to Ludington, Michigan. They have a sailboat that he likes to fish on! They also have a condo in Anna Maria Island, Florida where he enjoys soaking up the warm weather.
Once again, join us in congratulating our November Employee Spotlight, Paul!
