ROBERT JOHNSON EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT
Please join us in congratulating and celebrating our February Employee Spotlight, Rob Johnson!
Before joining the team at Berger Chevrolet, Rob began his career in the automotive industry in 1977, where he spent 43 years working at General Motors. When starting at GM at the age of 20, he began at the foundry and moved to the sewing shop before working on fuel injectors. When Rob retired from GM in 2020, he found himself bored and began to look for a job to keep himself busy and active.
Between working at GM and finding Berger Chevrolet, Rob worked for a short period outside of the automotive industry. After speaking with our Service Manager, Steve Johnson, about Berger Chevrolet, Rob accepted a job in our Service Department.
As a Service Porter, Rob stays busy moving customer vehicles around for our Service Department. Between moving cars out of the service bays and bringing more in to be serviced, he takes great pride in taking care of our customer vehicles when they are here for service. Some of the reasons he enjoys working at Berger are the people, staying busy, and keeping active. The job offers great exercise, lots of laughing, and having fun while getting the job done!
Rob also enjoys our Employee Luncheons, where he is known around Berger as our house DJ at our Employee Luncheons. Growing up in the 60s, Rob had been singing all of his life. He’s a big fan of R&B, gospel, and would often sing along with The Temptations. Needless to say, music is in his blood, and in 1985 he became a DJ. After honing his skills, he noticed how expensive it was to hire a DJ for events. He felt that having good music at special events should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Rob decided to use his skills to help give back and offered an affordable DJ for special events such as weddings. In fact, he charged the same amount for his services from 1986 to when he retired in 2021. Luckily for us, Rob comes out of DJ retirement every summer when he brings his gear to our monthly luncheons!
When asked if he had any advice to anyone interested in working in the Service Department he said, “Come to Berger, it’s the best place to be and a good place to work.” He also went on to say that the people who work here are friendly and work together as a team. Just be sure to come in with the “right attitude and ready to work”! 😊
Rob wanted to give Channon, Service Director, and Steve, Service Manager, each a shout-out! Rob appreciates Steve hiring him in 2021, respects his attitude, and appreciates how well they can relate to one another. When asked if he wanted to give anyone in a different department a shout-out he said, “Everybody”! No wonder it’s always better at Berger!
As a true General Motors man, Rob has owned GM vehicles all of his life. He currently drives a Cadillac Escalade and a Chevy Traverse! When he’s not at work, you can find him shooting pool with his grandson, singing, or listening to music. He appreciates all music, but R&B, gospel, country, and jazz are some of his favorite genres.
Please join us in congratulating Rob, our February Employee Spotlight! We’re so lucky to have you on our team.
