WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF A CHEVY LEASE?
Choosing to lease your vehicle is a great option if you’re looking for a lower monthly payment with a short commitment, but what happens when your lease ends? Throughout your lease journey, Berger Chevrolet and GM Financial will keep you updated on your countdown, but there’s no need to stress! Whether you have a year, a month, or a day left in your lease, at Berger Chevrolet, you have options to help you answer the question of “what’s next?” Here’s what you can expect when your Chevy lease is up!
To prepare for the end of your lease, start by going over your contract, lease terms, and potential charges. Make sure you’re familiar with your paperwork and understand the requirements of the lease. If you have questions, our team at Berger Chevy is here to help or you can visit the GM Financial website for helpful Lease-End FAQs. You can also prep by requesting your release purchase price. You can do that by logging in to your account on GM Financial.
Once you have reviewed the terms of your lease, it’s time to look at your options.
Lease or Buy New
After returning your lease vehicle, you once again have the option to lease or buy a new vehicle. This is your opportunity to take something new for a spin at Berger! Were you in a Chevy Blazer? Try a Silverado this time around! Discuss what you liked and didn’t like about your leased vehicle with your Berger sales representative and they will help you find the next perfect fit for you.
Purchase Your Leased Vehicle
Are you head over heels in love with your leased Chevy and just not ready to say goodbye? We are so glad to hear it! At the end of your lease or at any point during your lease, you have the option to purchase your leased Chevy vehicle. Just give your Berger sales representative a call and they will help you through the next steps!
Return Your Lease
If you are ready to say goodbye and don’t plan on leasing or buying a new Chevy vehicle, you have the option to just return your vehicle at the end of the lease. To return your vehicle, just schedule an appointment with Berger! If Berger Chevrolet is your originating dealership for your lease, we are best qualified to help you with your lease-end process, so you can return your vehicle to our Grand Rapids dealership located on 28th Street. If you have moved a significant distance, you can return your vehicle to any participating Chevy dealer. Even if we aren’t your originating dealer, at Berger, we’re still here to help the greater West Michigan area!
Extend Your Chevy Lease
You are able to extend your lease, but typically only for one month past the originally scheduled lease end date. At the end of the extension, you will need to return the vehicle per usual. You will receive the extension through email or mail. The extension on the lease does not increase or extend the mileage in your original contract. If you go over your contractual mileage, any excess mileage will be billed at the rate per mile listed in your agreement.
Pre-Return Inspection
If you choose not to purchase your lease vehicle, you may want to consider a Pre-Return Inspection before returning your vehicle. Though it’s not necessary, the inspection can grant you peace of mind by identifying possible additional charges. The inspection can alert you to excess miles and any excess wear that you may be penalized for at the end of your lease. Peace of mind stems from your ability to adapt to either make necessary repairs or set aside a budget for the additional charges you now foresee coming.
In addition to this peace of mind, the Pre-Return Inspection is also FREE! Through a third-party service called AutoVIN, GM Financial provides this service as a complimentary option. So not only do you not have to spend any money in the process, but it’s also potentially saving you money in the long run since you’ll be able to assess your condition report before your vehicle lease ends.
If you choose to partake in this complimentary service, scheduling your inspection is simple. You can choose whatever location would be most convenient for you. Whether that’s your home, the office, or at Berger Chevrolet on 28th St. Schedule your appointment at AutoVINLive.com with your VIN and GM Financial account number on hand.
Turning in Your Vehicle
After you have done your Pre-Return Inspection and you have reached your lease end date, it’s time to turn in your vehicle. Start by looking over this helpful return checklist to double-check you have all keys and accessories present. You’ll also want to make sure you have removed all of your personal belongings from the vehicle including sunglasses, garage door openers, reusable bags, or anything else that belongs to you! Make sure you also clear all personal data from your vehicle including things like saved phone numbers or addresses in the Chevy Infotainment System.
Once you turn in your vehicle to Berger Chevrolet, you’ll receive a check in receipt and an odometer statement. When you get your copy of the turn-in receipt, it’s important to make sure that the mileage and any other information recorded is correct. After you’ve verified the information and returned the vehicle, you can expect to receive your lease-end liability invoice 30 to 45 days after the return date. From here, you have several flexible payment options. Log into your GM Financial account to find the best option for you or sit down with one of our Financial Advisors. At Berger, we’re happy to help you figure things out! You can even apply your My Chevy Rewards points towards your bill payment. Just log into your account and choose the “Pay with Points” option.
